No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi After 6.8 Solomon Islands Quake

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a 6.8 (preliminary magnitude 7.0) earthquake reported at 8:31 a.m. HST on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015, in the Solomon Islands region, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The PTWC says that based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi and and a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.

The US Geological Survey reports that the quake was located:

1. 119km (74mi) SW of Dadali, Solomon Islands
2. 176km (109mi) WNW of Honiara, Solomon Islands
3. 438km (272mi) SE of Arawa, Papua New Guinea
4. 849km (528mi) SE of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea
5. 891km (554mi) E of Alotau, Papua New Guinea
