Carlos Santana will return to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on March 5, 2016, in the A&B Amphitheater/Yokouchi Pavilion. Tickets will go on sale to MACC members only Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at 10 a.m.; the general public can purchase tickets starting Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 10 a.m.

The iconic sound of Santana’s guitar is one of the world’s best-known musical signatures, however, equally as relevant to his island fans is the fact that throughout his career, he has been the visionary force behind creativity that transcends musical genres and generational, cultural and geographical boundaries for more than four decades.

His artistry is a captivating melting pot that reflects Hawai‘i’s island culture. For 40 years and as many albums later, Santana has sold more than 100 million records and reached more than 100 million fans at concerts worldwide.

Santana’s first Top 10 hit, Evil Ways, stayed on Billboard’s chart for two years and was soon followed by two more classics and Billboard #1 albums—Abraxas (Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman) and Santana III (No One to Depend OnEverybody’s Everything).

Santana also received the Billboard Century Award (1996), was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998), received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor (2009) and was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors Award (2013).

To date, Santana has won ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammys. He won a record-tying nine Grammys for a single project—1999’s Supernatural—including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for Smooth) as well as three Latin Grammys. Supernatural (Maria, Maria, Wishing It Was) featured many tracks co-written by guest stars such as Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, Eric Clapton, Lauryn Hill and others.

Among many other honors, Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone as No. 15 on their list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” And, with the 2014 release of Corazón, Santana surpassed the Rolling Stones and, along with Barbara Streisand, is one of only two music acts in Billboard history to score at least one Top Ten album for six consecutive decades from the 1960s forward.

Since Santana’s last performance in Hawai‘i, he released his first-ever Latin music album, Corazon, in May of 2014. Produced by Lester Mendez, the album features superstar collaborations with various singers, such as Gloria Estefan, Ziggy Marley and Cindy Blackman.

Last fall, Santana released his memoir The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story to Light, which offers a page-turning tale of musical self-determination and inner self-discovery, with personal stories filled with colorful detail and life-affirming lessons. It’s a profoundly inspiring tale of divine inspiration and musical fearlessness that does not balk at finding the humor in the world of high-flying fame, or at speaking plainly of Santana’s personal revelations and the infinite possibility he sees in each person he meets.

Tickets are $65, $79, $89 and $129 with a limited number of premium $149-seats available (plus applicable fees).
