Mālama Maui Nui Puʻunēnē Baseyard Burglarized

The Puʻunēnē baseyard facility for Mālama Maui Nui was burglarized late last week, with tools and machinery reportedly stolen from a storage container.
Staff members discovered the incident on Friday morning, Dec. 11, and say the burglary presumably happened Thursday evening or early Friday morning
An incident report has since been filed with the Maui Police Department.

Despite this untimely incident, MMN staff say they remain “steadfastly optimistic.”
Executive Director John P. de Jesus shared his sentiments in a statement saying, “Desperate people do desperate things, and we have compassion and empathy for those individuals. We choose to embrace this opportunity to learn, exercise and experience perseverance; for the occasion to reach out and witness kōkua from our community in the face of adversity.”
Organization leaders say the staff remains encouraged by the fact that they have been blessed to have befriended, labored alongside, and obtained the support of the tight-knit community of Maui.

“This holiday season, we humbly request the community to keep us in your hearts. We look forward to continuing to mālama both the environment and the people of Maui Nui in the New Year,” organization leaders said.

Mālama Maui Nui is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate, inspire, and empower individuals and communities to beautify and maintain Maui Nui’s environment, thereby supporting its economy, quality of life, and unique Hawaiian culture. It is federally recognized as Community Work Day Program; the organization began doing business as Mālama Maui Nui in July 2013.
