    Looking Ahead

    Moderate trade winds are expected to begin to increase late tonight through this weekend. Clouds and showers will remain focused over the windward and mauka areas through Friday with an increase in shower activity this weekend. As trades increase this weekend, some of the showers may reach leeward sections from time to time.

     

    Today 

    Today northeast winds are expected from 15 – 25 mph with higher gusts. Partly cloudy skies for windward and mauka spots with scattered showers. Sunny skies for leeward areas with just isolated showers. High temperatures from 81° to 86°.

    UV index at 6 (“high” exposure level)

     

    Tonight 

    Northeast winds are expected from 10 to 25 mph. Low temperatures from 72° to 77°. Mostly cloudy skies are expected in the evening with scattered showers in windward and mauka spots and isolated showers for lee areas.

    Meteorologist Malika Dudley
    Malika was born and raised in Hilo. She began her career in news at KGMB9 in 2007. As a part of the Hawaii News Now weather team, Malika was nominated for two Emmy Awards for excellence in weather reporting and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Journalism Award for her reporting on Hawaii’s tsunami damage in 2011. In 2019, Malika was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii Chapter in the category of Science Reporting for her Big Island Now news report on what was happening beneath the sea surface at the ocean entry of the Puna lava flow.
