Dear Mayor,

Q: The closure of the DMVL service center at Maui Mall has impacted a huge number of people. Is there any idea when it will reopen?

A: The main service center remains closed due to the flooding that occurred; it will remain closed indefinitely due to extensive rain damage as well as health concerns for employees.

For the time being, the hours of operation at the satellite DMVL offices have been extended to accommodate more customers. Hours of operation at the Pukalani, Kīhei and Lahaina DMVL satellite offices are now from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The satellite offices (except Lahaina) will also open for a half-day on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. noon.

DMVL staff are hoping to open a temporary service center in the next few weeks, but due to the complexity of the computer network that links the county DMVL with the state system for drivers licenses and other state services, the computer system must be relocated to a facility that can accommodate the intricate cabling and power requirements.

For now, a call center is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The public may call 270-7363 with questions about any services needed. To view the locations and current wait-times at the satellite DMVL locations, visit www.mauicounty.gov/DMVL and click on “MV&L Office Locations & Wait Times.”
