Aloha United Way Appoints Six New Board Members
Aloha United Way has added six executives to its board of directors: Harris Chan, Patrick “Rick” Ching, Blenn Fujimoto, Mark Platte, Dan Schaberg and Michael Stollar.
The board of directors works collaboratively to support the organization’s strategic direction, community-focused work and mission statewide.
“We are thrilled to welcome Harris, Rick, Blenn, Mark, Dan and Michael to Aloha United Way’s exceptional board of directors,” said Terri Fujii, chairworman of the board. “They bring extensive business experience and passionate commitment to serving our community.”
Board members whose terms have ended include: John Dean, Michael Gold, Dayton Nakanelua, Michele Saito and Chris Sbarbaro.
“We are enormously grateful to John, Mike, Dayton, Michele and Chris for their outstanding leadership and generosity in supporting Aloha United Way over the last few years,” said Cindy Adams, president and chief executive officer of the Aloha United Way. “They played a critical role in the continued success of Aloha United Way.”
With guidance from the board of directors, AUW continues to partner with business, labor, government and nonprofit sectors to deliver measurable and sustainable solutions to the community’s most critical problems.
Chan is the vice president of operations for Hawai‘i and French Polynesia at Starwood Hotels & Resorts. He first came to Hawai‘i in 1984, after transferring from the Sheraton Hong Kong to the Sheraton Moloka‘i. During his career, Chan has held numerous positions at hotels and resorts around the globe, including a total of 18 years in the Hawaiian Islands. Before his current position, he spent five years as vice president operations at Starwood Hotels& Resorts in Greater China. He returned to Hawaii most recently in 2013.
Ching is the president and chief operating officer of Servco Pacific Inc., a company that includes the Servco Auto dealerships, which is Hawai‘i’s largest automotive group. Ching joined the company in 1985 in corporate finance and later moved to Servco Automotive operations, where he was promoted to president in 2009.
Fujimoto is the executive vice president and specialized markets manager of Central Pacific Bank, where he focuses on medical, dental, law and CPA industries. Fujimoto joined Central Pacific Bank in 2000 and has over 35 years of banking and business experience in mortgage operations, retail and commercial banking and wealth management.
Platte is the news director for Hawaii News Now, the combined stations of KHNL, KGMB and KFVE. He moved to Hawai‘i in late 2000 to become the editor and senior vice president of the Honolulu Advertiser. Platte joined Hawaii News Now in 2010, following the merger of the Advertiser and Star-Bulletin.
Schaberg is the vice president and general manager for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent A Car & National Car Rental. In his current role as Hawaii VP/general manager, he oversees operations that include 70 locations and over 1,100 employees, across all islands.
Stollar is the executive vice president and chief health and transformation officer for the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA). In his current capacity, Stollar’s focus is to advance HMSA as a catalyst to create a sustainable community health system that enhances the health and well-being goals of the residents of the state of Hawai‘i.
