Clarence K. Castillo
January 5, 1944 – September 3, 2016

Clarence Kolomona Castillo was born on January 6, 1944 in Hāna, Maui.

He retired from Maui Memorial Hospital and was the owner of Kahului Janitorial Services. He was also the founder and President of the Kuhao Hammers Horseshoe Club. He also served in the United States Army.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary; with service to begin at 11 a.m.; cremation to follow.

Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Leona “Vicky” Castillo (Mina); son, Curtis (Nisha Santana) Castillo; daughters, Michele (Jon) Pagaduan and Kristy (Nolan) Au; grandchildren, Sheylynn, Shyanne, Shalea and Tytan Castillo, Jonah, Micah and Nainoa Pagaduan, Ha’aheo, Kamaha’o, Natasha-Rae and Kili’ohu Au; hanai grandchildren, Lory-Ann Pacil and Lilinoe Andrade-Santana; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; predeceased by his parents, Cirilo and Katherine (Kawawa) Castillo; brother, Alfred Castro Sr., and grandson, Noah Au;

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Waihe’e on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at 9 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. and in-nichment at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery at 1 p.m.  Irene is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Virgil, deceased) Ordonez, Geraldine (Wayne) Royce; son, Glenn Reys; brothers, Severino Presbitero, Pedro Presbitero; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Irene is predeceased by her husband, Lucas; daughter, Cynthia Sanderson-Shimko; brothers, Angelino Presbitero, Jose Presbitero; sisters, Bernarda Irlandez, Consolation Morillo and Rebecca Ventic. The family would like to give a special Thank You to the staff and doctors at Hale Makua, Hospice Maui and Maui Memorial Medical Center.

August 15, 1943 – August 31, 2016

Mickie Warren Sheets, 73, of Makawao, Maui passed away on Aug. 31, 2016, at his home, under the care of Islands Hospice. He was born on Aug. 16, 1943. in St. Helen, Oregon.Mickie was a retired Operations Manager for Time Warner. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Sheets. He is survived by his wife, Lydia Sheets; Daughter , Carrol Meredith; step-daughter, Gina (Hardeep) Reddick; siblings, Les (Sandy) Sheets, Wanda (Buck) Martin; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Private family service were held.

The family would kike to express gratitude for the support and care received from Islands Hospice.

Neil Edmond Clevenger
April 24, 1978 – August 29, 2016

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maui Masonic Lodge, 190 W. Kamehameha Ave., Kahului on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 at 2 p.m.  Neil was a paramedic at Hawaii Life Flight and previously worked for AMR Maui County, Bayada Home Health and AMR Portland, Oregon. He was also a First Aid and CPR Instructor as well as a Singer who performed in productions with MauiOnstage and MAPA. Neil was a 32nd Degree Mason.Neil is survived by his wife, Aislinn Clevenger; sons, Riley Clevenger and Kyler Clevenger; daughter, Jordan Nicole; brothers, Sean Clevenger, Nick Clevenger (his twin), Todd Clevenger and Ryan Clevenger. He is predeceased by his parents, Roberta Clevenger and Guy Clevenger.

Antigono C. Bugtong, 90 of Wailuku, Maui passed away on August 27, 2016 at Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku. He was born on February 28, 1926 in the Philippines.

He retired from Maui Land and Pineapple Company as a Field Worker.

Visitations will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary Kahului; with service to begin at 7:00 p.m. Second day service will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Waihee from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; mass to begin at 10:00 a.m.; burial to follow at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku at 1:00 p.m.

Antigono is survived by his wife, Consolacion Bugtong; sons, Carlito (Julita) Bugtong, Rodrigo (Flora) Bugtong; daughters, Lorena (Dionicio) Baruela, Fely (Alberto) Haban; brother, Gaudencio (Francisca) Bugtong; sister, Josefa Bugtong Cayan; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

George “Archie” Campbell

George “Archie” Campbell
April 11, 1932 – August 26, 2016

George (Archie) M Campbell, 84 of Wailuku passed away on Aug. 26, 2016 while under the care of Island Hospice. George was born on April 11, 1932 in Keoneoio, Mākena, Maui. He was retired from the Maui Land and Pine Warehouse in Kapalua, and as caretaker of Kaʻahumanu Church. A celebration of George’s life will be held on Thursday, September 8th beginning at 9 a.m. at the Kaʻahumanu Church in Wailuku. Service will be at 11 a.m., with a burial to follow at 1 p.m. at the Makawao Veteran’s Cemetery. George was predeceased by his parents; Moses & Esther Campbell, Sr.; Brothers, Jeremiah, Neal and Solomon Campbell; Sisters, Mildred Campbell, Lowaena Hau, and Betty Purdy.George is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maile Campbell; Daughter, Francine “Cynee” Campbell; Brothers, Moses (Helen) Campbell, Paul (Lei) Campbell and Bruce Campbell; Sisters, Susie Kamalani, Ruth Vilvens and Maybelle (Richard) Ka’a’a; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laura Malek
July 23, 1925 – August 25, 2016

Two friends were at her side to comfort her in the last hours, Margaret and Cynthia who are volunteers from Nā Hoaloha based in Wailuku, Maui. Margaret showed her deep kindness for years by visiting Laura Sue as her health left her bedridden. We are especially grateful to Margaret for bringing to our Mother the Eucharist and arranging for a priest from Christ the King Catholic Church in Kahului to give Laura Sue the Sacraments. Laura Sue was a member of this parish. We will always remember Cynthia’s generosity with her time and tenderness, making weekly deliveries of “treats” from Whole Foods Market that broke up Laura Sue’s isolation and monotony. We also thank Hale Makua staff for their patience and help as Laura Sue became increasingly dependent on them, especially Laura Sue’s favorite aide, “Remy.” Laura Sue also spent several years as a “Neighbor Helping Neighbor” volunteer with Nā Hoaloha on the island of Maui. She earned a Master’s Degree in nursing after decades of hard work in the medical profession and long years of academic studies. At the close of World War II, she married Leo Malek, a career member of the U. S. Navy. She made untold sacrifices to raise three children, including sending her two daughters to Catholic schools.Laura Sue was a native of Oklahoma, born into grit of the Dustbowl and the Great Depression. Her maternal grandfather served as one of the only physicians and her paternal grandfather served as a judge in the Oklahoma Territory. A tornado hit the family farm when she was 16, killing her father and destroying the family home. As a teenager during World War II, she migrated to San Francisco. There she met her future husband and they spent their first year of marriage working on a military base in post-War Japan. Through a military transfer to duty in San Diego, they settled the family in California. In the 1980s, Laura moved to Maui to be with her son.  Laura Sue was preceded in death by her husband Leo and daughter Cathy Lynne. Survivors include: two children Michael Malek and Leslie Malek de Pasian, one grandson Travis Malek and several grandchildren as well as one brother James Coker, one sister in law Mary, and three nieces Carlene, Linda, and Diane. Friends and acquaintances are asked to remember her with your prayers for the repose of her soul.

Jerome DuRuz
April 8, 1926 – August 24, 2016

Jerome William DuRuz, 90, of Kailua Kona, Hawaiʻi, was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 8, 1926, and passed away on Aug. 24, 2016. Jerome served our Country in the Navy in WWII aboard the ship LST472 and was owner of a jewelry business.

He is survived by wife Barbara; son Jerome (Maryjo) DuRuz Jr. of Everett, Washington; daughter Lizabeth (Jerry) Metz of Marysville, Washington; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
