Kapalua Unveils Larger-Than-Life Gingerbread Pineapple House
The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and its award-winning pastry team led by Executive Pastry Chef Yoshikazu Kizu unveiled a larger-than-life pineapple house made of 900 Gingerbread Bricks, 1,000 Eggs and 750 pounds of sugar.
The inspiration for the holiday creation was Kapalua’s unique history as a pineapple plantation as well as the pineapple’s symbolism of hospitality.
Carefully handcrafted over the last week, here’s how the Pineapple House breaks down by the numbers:
• 900 Gingerbread Bricks
• 1,000 Eggs
• 800 Smarties
• 600 Hard Candies
• 150 pounds of Granulated Sugar
• 200 pounds of Brown Sugar
• 80 grams of Copper Powder
• 600 pounds of Cake Flour
• 600 Gingerbread Roofing Tiles
• 350 pounds of Powdered Sugar
• 100 pounds of Butter
• 50 pounds of Snow Sugar
• 35 pounds of Molasses
• 20 pounds of Natural Food Coloring
From a large scale pineapple house to gingerbread surfboard and candy-colored sleigh, the aroma of gingerbread fills the entire lobby and creates a unique backdrop for family photos.
