Nāpili Bay brown water. (1.12.17)

A Brown Water Advisory remains in effect for Nāpili Bay in West Maui.

The State Department of Health issued the advisory on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, and maintained the caution asking the public to stay out of water in the area.

The department advises the public to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff “due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris.”

Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff; however, if the water is brown the public should stay out and continue to practice good personal hygiene by following up with a doctor if there are any health concerns.
