Maui Police Promote Seven; Kiyota Becomes Assistant Chief

The Maui Police Department today announced the promotion of seven individuals including: Sterling Kiyota to the rank of Assistant Chief; Kenneth Doyle to the rank of Lieutenant; and Lawrence Becraft, Aylett Wallwork, Ka Lae O Ka Ena Brown, Keoki Santos, and Ryan Saribay to the rank of Sergeant.

Captain Sterling Kiyota was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief and assigned to the Support Services Bureau. The promotion took effect on Jan. 1, 2017.

Assistant Chief Kiyota is a 29 year veteran of the Maui Police Department and began his career in November 1987 as a member of the 36th Recruit Class.

During his career, he has had assignments in Wailuku and Kihei Patrol, the Vice Division Gambling and Morals Unit and the Communications Receiving Desk. His command positions include the Molokaʻi Patrol Division and Lahaina Patrol Division.

He graduated from the FBI National Academy in December 2014 as a member of the 258th Session.

Assistant Chief Kiyota and his wife Korilynn have two daughters, Taylor and Tawny, and a grandson, Isaiah, and granddaughter, Kamaleialoha.

Sergeant Kenneth Doyle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division.

Sergeant Doyle was hired in 1999. His career assignments include Lahaina, Molokaʻi and Kīhei Patrol and the Vice Division.

His most recent assignment was the Vice K-9 Unit, where he has been the supervisor since 2011.

Sergeant Doyle and his wife Wendy have a son, Duke.

Officer Lawrence Becraft was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Lahaina Patrol Division.

Officer Becraft was raised on the Big Island before joining the department in 1993. During his career, he had assignments in Wailuku, Molokai and Lahaina Patrol and the Traffic Section where he worked in both the OUI Task Force and Vehicular Homicide Unit.

He was also a past recipient of the Hawaiʻi State Law Enforcement Officials Association Officer of the Year award.

Officer Becraft has two daughters, Mya and Kayla.

Officer Aylett Wallwork was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division.

Officer Wallwork joined the department in 2000 as a member of the 55th Recruit Class. His assignments have included the Receiving Desk and Wailuku Patrol. He has been with the Community Policing program since 2011.

Officer Wallwork is credited with starting the Maui Police Athletic League, which provides free youth athletic programs supported by volunteer officers throughout Maui.

Officer Ka Lae O Ka Ena Brown was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. She will be assigned to the Receiving Desk.

Officer Brown joined the department in 2001 as a member of the 57th Recruit Class. She has had assignments in Wailuku, Molokai and Kīhei Patrol and most recently in the Community Relations Section as a D.A.R.E. Officer. She instructs Recruits in report writing, is a member of the department’s Peer Support Team and serves on the board of the Maui Police Relief Association.

Officer Keoki Santos was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Hāna Patrol Division.

Officer Santos began his career with the department in 2006. During his 10 years of service, he has had assignments in Wailuku, Hāna and Kīhei Patrol, the Crime Reduction Unit, the Special Response Team and most recently the Criminal Intelligence Unit.

Officer Santos and his wife Keala have two children, Alaula and Kahiau.

Officer Ryan Saribay was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Molokaʻi Patrol Division.

Officer Saribay is a graduate of Lahainaluna High School and Michigan State University. He joined the department in 2006 and upon completion of recruit school, was assigned to Wailuku Patrol. In 2013, he was transferred to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Division as a Juvenile Investigator.

During his career, he has been a Field Training Officer, a member of the Special Response Team and an instructor for Recruit training in the areas of Arrest and Defense Tactics, Officer Safety and Active Shooter.

Captain Sterling Kiyota was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief and assigned to the Support Services Bureau. The promotion took effect on Jan. 1, 2017.

Sergeant Kenneth Doyle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division.

Officer Lawrence Becraft was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Lahaina Patrol Division.

Officer Aylett Wallwork was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division.

Officer Ka Lae O Ka Ena Brown was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. She will be assigned to the Receiving Desk.

Officer Keoki Santos was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Hāna Patrol Division.

Officer Ryan Saribay was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective March 1, 2017. He will be assigned to the Molokaʻi Patrol Division.
