    Looking Ahead

    Dry, trade wind weather is forecast for the week. Any rainfall will focus over windward and mauka spots and be rather light. A slight decrease in easterly trade winds is expected Wednesday through Friday. An increase in trades and windward rainfall is possible later next weekend.



    We have east winds today around 10 to 20 mph. High temperatures are forecast from 80° to 85°. Partly cloudy skies for windward and mauka spots with isolated showers. Mostly sunny skies for lee areas.

    Partly cloudy with scattered windward showers tonight. Low temperatures from 69° to 74°. Winds will be out of the east from 10 to 20 mph.

    Malika was born and raised in Hilo. She began her career in news at KGMB9 in 2007. As a part of the Hawaii News Now weather team, Malika was nominated for two Emmy Awards for excellence in weather reporting and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Journalism Award for her reporting on Hawaii’s tsunami damage in 2011. In 2019, Malika was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii Chapter in the category of Science Reporting for her Big Island Now news report on what was happening beneath the sea surface at the ocean entry of the Puna lava flow.
