Cipriano V. Tejero Sr., 78, of Kīhei, passed away on Aug. 6, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 20, 1938, in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at St. Theresa Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Valley Isle Memorial Park Cemetery in Ha‘ikū.

Cipriano was a retired grounds man at Kā‘anapali Operation Association. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cardenas Tejero; sons, Nestor (Agustina Christina) Tejero, Nelson (Jessery) Tejero, Nerio (Daisy) Tejero, Rommel (Mary Ann) Tejero, Cirpiano Jr. (May Joy) Tejero; daughter, Nancy (Melchor) Subia; sisters, Estefania (Reynaldo) Ayco, Paulina (Roberto) Alcaide, Cristeta (Vidal) Sarmiento; 22 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Kenneth “Blanc” Kalani Tavares, 69, of Makawao, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Aug. 5, 2017. He was born on July 15, 1948, in Pā‘ia.

Visitation over urn will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Blanc was a retired customer installation supervisor at Hawaiian Electric Company. He is survived by his wife, Linda A. Tavares; daughter, Tammy N. Miles (John); son, Travis K. Tavares; granddaughter, TaylorRose Tavares; brother, Reynolds “Spike” Tavares (Verna) and sister, Heidi Serrao (Aaron).

Alfredo Tacla, 62, of Wailuku passed away on Aug. 4, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on May 14, 1955, in Honolulu.

Rosita Noble Cabotaje, 80, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2017, under the care of Islands Hospice, with her loving family by her side. She was born on Sept. 28, 1936, in Pā‘ia.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church; mass will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Rosita attended grade school at Holy Rosary, and in 1955, graduated from St. Anthony High School. She worked at the Royal Lahaina Hotel, starting as a bus girl, waitress, baker and retired in 1998 as PBX Operator. She loved watching pro tennis (she was a huge fan of the Williams sisters), baking, cooking, Volunteering her services to the community (she received the Easter Seals Humanitarian award), and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria, Melissa Vida (Earl Sr.), Lena Mendez; six grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Rodney; sisters, Loreta Baza, Carmen Brinkley (Joe Sr.), Filey, Juanita Soto, Lillian Spragan; and sister in law, Pat Blair. She was predeceased by her husband, Simeon Cabotaje; brother, Albert Navarro; and nephew, David Brinkley.

Virginio “Jimmy” Guerrero Lista Sr.

Virginio “Jimmy” Guerrero Lista Sr, 73 of Kahului passed away on July 30, 2017. He was born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Nov. 25, 1943.

Services honoring Virginio will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a prayer service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku at 2 p.m.

Virginio is survived by his wife, Norma; children, Jackie, Lovelyn, Gino, Jenny, Jamie, Virma; grandchildren, William, Brandon, Tyler; siblings, Florentino (Linda, deceased), Andy (Ely), Leo (Juliana), Inocencio (Esther), Ethel; stepmother, Anita. He is predeceased by his father, Feliciano Lista; a sister, Clarita (Amante, deceased) and a brother, Rudy (Quetang, deceased).

Ricardo “Caldo” Facuri, 81, of Wailuku, passed away on July 29, 2017 at his residence. He was born on Nov. 24, 1935 in Pu’ukoli’i, Lahaina.

Services honoring Ricardo will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at St. Anthony Church, Wailuku, mass will begin at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao.

Ricardo served in the US Army and worked as a Bellman at The Sheraton Maui Hotel where he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys A.M. Facuri; sons, John (Rose) Naeole, Nolan (Cathy) Facuri; Daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Kanoa and June (George) Pacubas; brothers, Segundo (Marlene), Paul (Pauline), Simeon (Karen), and Mariano (Pat) Facuri; sisters Ursula (Timmy) Medeiros, Leonora (Vince) Tesoro, Flora (Jeff) Mahoney, Nattie (Paul) Juario; sister-in-law, Fita Facuri and 10 grandchildren.

Raymond James Rivera Jr.

Raymond James Rivera Jr., 80, of Kahului, passed away on July 20, 2017, at his home, under the care of Hospice Maui. He was born on March 29, 1937, in Koloa, Kaua‘i.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, Aug. 13, at Kanaha Beach Park at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow at noon. Scattering of ashes to also take place in the afternoon.

Raymond is survived by his sons, Raymond (Bobbie-Jo) Rivera, Robert Rivera, Francis Rivera; daughter, Joanne Rivera Serrano; brothers, Randy (Tina Wilson) Salomon, Anthony (Leona) Salomon; sisters, Ruby (Billie Borges) Morales, Beverly (Larry Singson) Salomon, Linda (Sue) Salomon, Bobbie Jean (Nathan) Rapoza, Rita; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren.

Gordon Wayne Costa, 59, of Hilo, passed away on Aug. 8, 2017 at his home in Hilo. Gordon was born in Hilo on Jan. 23, 1958 to Herman Costa Sr. and Geraldine Costa. He is survived by his mother; Geraldine L. Costa, brothers; Herman (Debra-Ann Kikau) Costa Jr. of Hilo, Reginald Costa of Hilo, Ronnie Lee Costa of Hilo, sister; Bernadette (Leo Jr. Campbell) Costa of Mountain View, and numerous nieces and nephews. Jeremiah O. West, 35, of Pāhoa, passed away on July 28, 2017. Jeremiah was born in Palmer, AK to William and Johanna West on Jan. 19, 1982.

He is survived by his parents; William and Johanna West of Pāhoa, Grandfather; George West of Gulfport, MS, brothers; Joshua West of Anchorage, AK, and Joel West of Pahrump, NV.

Jeremiah was a gentle soul and a genuinely good person, loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.

Claire Leland Riblett
October 16, 1954 – July 25, 2017

Claire Leland Riblett, 62 of Ocean View, was born in Lincoln, NE, and passed away on July 25, 2017.

He worked doing maintenance of commercial property.

He is survived by wife Laura “Scooter”; daughter Codee Cruz of Ocean View; sister Carol (Del) Hart of Apache Junction, AZ; and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

Dominique D. Kendron

Dominique D. Kendron, 54, of Na‘alehu, passed away on July 24, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Dominique was born in Indiana on Dec. 26, 1962.

She was a teacher for 20 years until her retirement. Dominique even taught locally at Konawaena High School. She is survived by her daughter; Renae (Erbin) Deponte, Brother; Roark Kendron, and two grandchildren. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.

Elena Barsanti

Elena M. Barsanti
August 12, 1966 – July 24, 2017

Elena M. Barsanti, 50, passed away on July 24, 2017 at her home in Kea‘au.

A native of Wakefield, Mass., she was born to Benito and Mary (O’Rourke) Barsanti on Aug. 12, 1966, the second of three children. Elena graduated from Wakefield High School in 1984, and from Emerson College in Boston in 1992.

After college, she moved to San Francisco, where she worked in restaurants and cafes while painting in her spare time. In 2001, Elena moved to the island of Hawai‘i, and it became her home. Together with her partner of 20 years, Angela Racho, they built a house on an empty plot of land outside of Hilo, fulfilling a dream they had shared for many years.

For Elena, making art was essential to life. She was happiest when she was painting or embroidering, making stained glass or, especially, singing. She was known in Hilo for her singing at the weekly farmers’ market, partly to attract customers to the baked goods she was selling, but mostly just for the joy of it.

In addition to her partner, Elena is survived by her brothers, Robert P. Barsanti and Michael J. Barsanti, her sisters-in-law Victoria and Adora Racho, and six nieces and nephews.

Services are being planned for Hawaii and for the east coast. Contributions should be sent to the Barsanti Family Scholarship Fund, c/o The Scholarship Fund of Wakefield, Box 321 Wakefield MA 01880. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.

Patrick B. Salvador
March 17, 1962 – July 22, 2017

Patrick B. Salvador, 55, of Na‘alehu, passed away on July 22, 2017 at home. Patrick was born in the Philippines. He was a laborer for Mac Farms of Hawai‘i. Funeral services will be held at Na‘alehu Sacred Heart Catholic Church (95-5558 Mamalahoa Highway, Na’alehu, HI 96772) on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017. Visitation at 8:30 to 10 a.m. with funeral mass beginning at 10 a.m. After the service a burial will commence at 11:30 a.m. at Na‘alehu Cemetery.

Patrick is survived by his wife Milagros Salvador of Na‘alehu, son; Mark Salvador of Na‘alehu, daughters; May Ann (Alberto Salmo) Salvador of Na‘alehu, Febelyn Salvador of Kona, brothers; Alfredo (Levanda) Salvador Jr. of Kona, sisters; Narcisa (Richard) Pedrena of San Diego, Bernadette (Jay) Hashimoto of Hilo, Paz (Julito Balais) Salvador of Honolulu, sister-in-law; Evangeline Salvador of Maui, two grandchildren, also numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews and cousins. Phillip Eugene Paranial
February 8, 1952 – July 14, 2017

Phillip Eugene Paranial, 65, of Hilo, passed away on July 14, 2017 at Hilo Medical Center. Phillip was born on Feb. 8, 1952 in Hilo, to Eugenio and Louisa E. Paranial.

He is survived by his brother Charlie Paranial of Kona and his sister Carol (Manuel) Laboy of Oregon. There will be a service for Phillip held at Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo on Aug. 18, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Ballard Family Mortuary- Hilo.
