Maui Teen Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Hansen Rd Crash

A 16-year-old girl from Makawao, sustained life threatening injuries in a motor vehicle crash reported at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 on Hansen Road just north of Pūlehu Road in Kahului/Puʻunēnē, police said.

Police say the crash occurred as a red 2014 Nissan Frontier pickup, traveling north on Hansen Road, failed to negotiate a left bend in the roadway, and collided into a utility pole located on the northbound shoulder.

The injured teen was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle, according to Maui police.

Police say the driver of the vehicle and his front seat passenger are both juvenile males from Kahului and Kīhei respectively.

Wailuku Patrol Officers were assigned to investigate the incident. Police say the involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
