Waterline Break on Wākea Avenue in Kahului

UPDATE: 7:56 a.m. 10.25.18

At this time West Wākea Avenue is closed completely at the Niʻihau Street intersection, and is expected to remain closed until approximately 1 p.m. while crews complete repairs to a broken waterline in Kahului.

Due to a 12-inch waterline break, Wākea Avenue in Kahului is restricted to one lane of traffic only between Lono and Kamehameha Avenues.

Department of Water Supply personnel will be working on repairing the break this morning and hope to have the job completed by noon today.   Motorists are asked to drive with caution and take alternate routes.

The Maui Police Department says east bound traffic on West Wākea Avenue at Niʻihau Street is closed until further notice due to the broken water line.

Customers in the area may have no water or low pressure this morning.  Customers may want to flush their waterline this afternoon.

Customers are asked to call the DWS service line at (808) 270-7633 only for water emergencies.
