A 25-year-old Kīhei man operating a moped was critically injured in a head-on collision on South Kīhei Road last night.

The incident was reported at around 10:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 just south of Nohokai Street in Kīhei.

Police say the collision occurred as the black Yongfu moped was traveling southbound against traffic within the northbound lane of South Kīhei Road. According to police reports, the moped collided into a silver 2018 Cadillac XTS four-door sedan that was traveling north within the lane.

Police say the operator of the moped was not wearing a helmet, and was ejected from his moped. He was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment of injuries.
