Kaʻahumanu Center to Host Chinese New Year Celebration

The Queen Ka’ahumanu Center will host their annual Chinese New Year celebration on Sunday, Feb. 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The celebration will feature a martial arts celebration, firecrackers, and a colorful lion dance by Auʻs Shaolin Arts Society. Chinese erlong (keiki) crafts will also be available for keiki 12 and under.

In Chinese astrology, this year marks the year of the Boar, which is the twelfth of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac cycle. According to QKC vice president of business and community development Toni Rojas, the year of the boar is a symbol of good fortune in the Chinese zodiac.

“This is one of our most popular, annual traditions at QKC. Join us for this exciting celebration,” Rojas said. “Red lai see envelopes will be available at Guest Services to feed the lions in hope of obtaining good luck and prosperity in the new year. Gung Hee Fat Choy!”
