Visitor Pulled Unresponsive From Waters at Pu‘u Keka‘a

A 54-year-old male visitor was pulled from waters by fellow beachgoers at Puʻu Kekaʻa “Black Rock” in Kāʻanapali on Wednesday afternoon, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019.

Fire officials say the man was reportedly unresponsive but still breathing. He was transported to the hospital by Medics in critical condition.

The individual is believed to be a visitor from Korea, however, fire officials say the information is unconfirmed.

It is not clear exactly what events led up to this incident, said Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro.

The department’s Ladder 3 responded to the incident along with Medics.
