2019 Charity Walk Kicks Off on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i
Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi residents gathered for their Charity Walks this past Saturday, May 4 raising a total of $85,525 from both islands. The events, sponsored by the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, marked the kick off to the 41st Annual Charity Walk – a fundraiser that will take place later in the month on Maui, Kauaʻi, the Big Island and Oʻahu. The Maui event is slated for this weekend, Saturday, May 11, and will draw thousands of walkers. Last year, Maui County raised $1,422,535 to benefit 100 non-profits in Maui County.
The Molokaʻi Charity Walk began and ended at Hotel Molokaʻi, where 104 participants were treated to a festive program, and door prizes. The event raised $23,311 and recognized Molokaʻi High and Middle School as the top non-profit fundraiser bringing in $8,200.
The Lānaʻi Charity Walk began and ended at the Lānaʻi Senior Center with 75 walkers. The event raised $62,214. The non-profit organization raising the most funds this year was Lānaʻi Cat Sanctuary with $37,510.
“The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is proud to host events on Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi where every cent raised will stay on the island to benefit the local community,” said Lisa Paulson, Executive Director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association. “The Charity Walk represents the visitor industry’s commitment to giving back and we are pleased to support our Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi non-profits.”
