Honoapiʻilani Hwy Now OPEN Following Fire in Māʻalaea

Update: (12 p.m. 6.2.19; 1:30 p.m. 6.2.19)

Maui fire crews were called to the scene at around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 for a report of a brush fire between the Scenic Lookout and the “Pali” tunnel. The fire burned an area approximately 200 feet by 10 feet in size and the cause was undetermined.  The fire was contained by 11:05 a.m. and extinguished by 11:43 a.m. Responding units included Engine 1 from Wailuku and Tanker 10 from Kahului.  Conditions on scene were sunny and clear with trades blowing at 20 to 25 mph.

The Honoapi’ilani Hwy is now open in both directions as of 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019. It was closed for about an hour while crews battled a brush fire on the makai side of the road between miles 7 and 11 in Māʻalaea.
