Lunch & Learn Medical Cannabis Lecture in Lahaina
Cannabis researcher and author Michael Backes is headed to West Maui for his next Lunch & Learn presentation slated for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday Aug. 24, at Imua Family Services Office located at 930 Waineʻe Street in Lahaina.
His presentation, “Medical Cannabis: What You Should Know” is designed for those considering medical cannabis for themselves or a loved one. Backes says cannabis is recognized as a safe, effective and natural way to help manage a variety of conditions and symptoms including pain, nausea, muscle spasms, insomnia and anxiety.
Maui has 5,556 registered patients that use cannabis as a complement, or alternative, to opiates to help relieve chronic, severe pain pain, according to event organizers.
This presentation will cover Hawaiʻi’s Medical Cannabis Program, smoke-free cannabis, dosing and special information for seniors.
Michael Backes, author of Cannabis Pharmacy, will discuss Hawaiʻi’s qualifying conditions for using cannabis as well as the latest research on CBD and THC. Michael Backes will also explain smoke-free methods of administration, and the latest research about THC, CBD and other therapeutic plant compounds. He will also explain the conditions that qualify patients to use cannabis legally in the Aloha State. The final 30 minutes are reserved for audience questions and answers.
Backes currently serves as Curriculum and Training advisor for Maui Grown Therapies in Kahului, and is a member of their Science and Medical Advisory Board.
