Free Program aims to ‘Give Maui Parents a Voice’
Maui parents and caregivers will soon have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills under the Parent Leadership Training Institute Hawai’i program.
The goal of the program is to teach parents new leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement skills through hands-on projects in their own community.
“Parents and caregivers know the challenges their communities are facing better than anyone else, but their voices are often unheard,” Hawai’i Children’s Action Network executive director Deborah Zysman said.
“PLTI gives them the skills they need to tackle those challenges.”
Since 2015, PLTI has graduated over 35 alumni on Oʻahu.
PLTI’s first Maui cohort will begin with a full-day retreat on Oct. 12, followed by 20 weekly sessions and a graduation ceremony.
The program will be held at Imua Family Services in Kahului. Free meals and childcare will be provided.
Any Maui residents who are interested in the free program can apply here. The deadline to apply is Sept. 30.
