Lahaina Halloween Road Closures and Reveler Guidelines
The Maui Police Department is issuing a reminder to the public of road closures and slowed traffic due to this year’s Halloween event in Lahaina. Police will be closing Front Street from Baker Street to Prison Street at 3:30 p.m., and anticipate re-opening Front Street at approximately 11 p.m. Street parking is prohibited between 3:30 p.m. and 2 a.m., and violators will be cited and their vehicles towed at their own expense.
Revelers are also reminded that alcoholic beverages will not be allowed or tolerated in public areas, open lewdness is prohibited, and although creativity is encouraged, costumes that pose a hazard to public safety due to their size or construction will be evaluated and will be banned if deemed inappropriate.
Important note: Toy replicas of guns, knives, swords, or other types of weapons utilized as part of one’s costume will be inspected by the police. If found to be real or utilized in a dangerous manner, they will be confiscated and proper charges initiated.
Shuttle Service Available for Halloween in Lahaina
Roberts Hawaiʻi is offering a shuttle service as a way for people to get safely to and from Lahaina for Halloween without needing to worry about parking. One-way tickets cost $10 per passenger. Pickup locations are at the Kihei Aquatic Center at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., and War Memorial Gym in Wailuku at 6:30 p.m. Departures from the Lahaina Prison Street parking lot are offered at 9 and 11 p.m. to Kihei; and at 10:30 p.m. to Wailuku. Tickets may be purchased by credit card only by visiting Roberts’ website.
Costume Store: ‘Shop Until the Dead of Night’
Spirit Halloween, a temporary tenant at the Maui Marketplace in Kahului advertised “Shop Until the Dead of Night” hours this week as revelers search for last minute costumes and decorations. The seasonal costume store, which opened its doors in September, will be open until Nov. 3, three days past Halloween. Starting tomorrow, the store will be marking down prices for costumes and accessories by 25 percent, and selling decor for half off. All store merchandise will be offered at 50% off on Sunday. Store managers say the most popular costumes this year have been Harry Potter and Fortnite characters.
“HI I Like You” Prints 2019 Lahaina Halloween T-Shirt
Island brand, Hi I Like You, was selected to print this year’s Halloween in Lahaina T-shirt. The eco-friendly company uses sustainable clothing that utilizes materials such as recycled plastic bottles to “spread happiness and send positive messages.” The annual Halloween in Lahaina event, hosted by the Lahaina Town Action Committee, takes place on Thursday, Oct. 31, on Front Street.
