Costume-Clad Revelers Show Off Their Creativity at Lahaina Halloween ContestNovember 1, 2019, 3:52 AM HST · Updated November 1, 3:52 AM Wendy Osher · 0 Comments
Halloween Festivities on Front Street in Lahaina offered a prime venue for costume-clad revelers to show off their creativity.
The winner of this year’s annual Lahaina Halloween Costume Contest was a handmade giraffe costume complete with stilts and a neck worn as a hat that stretched toward the trees.
The visionary and model of the costume was Kelly Anderson. Fellow Lahaina resident Sky Thompson constructed the gentle giant. Both were visiting Anderson’s family in New York earlier this year when they saw the Lion King on Broadway, which inspired their entry.
Event organizers with the Lahaina Town Action Committee say the two selected a giraffe after learning they were recently added to the endangered species list.
The costume contest this year was sponsored by the Ellman family, Honu Seafood and Pizza, and Frida’s Beach House. In addition to bragging rights, the grand prize winner received a $1,000 Grand Prize Sponsored Honu Seafood & Pizza and Frida’s Beach House.
2nd place went to a 1960’s Batman crew and 3rd place went to the Mario Kart crew with prizes sponsored by Gemini Sailing Charters, Honu Seafood and Pizza and Frida’s Beach House.
