ʻMatildaʻ to Make Maui Premiere
The Tony Award-winning “Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical” revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.
A decade before J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” and the musical “Wicked,” Dahl, the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “James and the Giant Peach,” gave us the magical “Matilda.”
Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Even under Miss Honey’s watch however, Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing. The school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matildaʻs courage and cleverness could be the school’s saving grace! Packed with high-energy dance numbers, and catchy songs, “Matilda The Musical” is a joyous girl-power romp.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, from Nov. 29 through Dec. 15; 2 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 7 and 14; 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec, 15, and 3 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 8 at the Historic ʻĪao Theater.
