Need to Get Rid of Your Christmas Tree? Hereʻs a List of County-Wide Drop-Offs

For the first time in nearly a decade, the County of Maui will be offering free Christmas tree recycling.

All decorations must be removed, including tinsel and other materials, before the trees are accepted for recycling, according to the Department of Environmental Management.

The department is partnering with the Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui to offer a curbside pick-up service for Upcountry (Pāʻia, Haʻikū, Pukalani, Makawao, and Kula) residents from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020. A $10 to $20 donation per tree for the pick-up service will go toward supporting local Rotary projects.

Residents should call Richard Thompson at (808) 878-2177, by Jan. 3 to schedule a pickup.

Christmas trees will be accepted at the following locations:

Kīhei (accepting trees until Jan. 11):

Kihei Recycling Center – Open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Upcountry (accepting trees until Jan. 11):

The Makawao Recycling Center – Open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Central Maui:

EKO Compost at the Central Maui Landfill – Open daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

West Maui:

The Olowalu Convenience Center – Open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Hāna:

Hāna Landfill – Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Lānaʻi:

Lānaʻi Landfill – Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Molokaʻi:

Pawn’s Tree and Mulch at the Naiwa Landfill – Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The department is also reminding residents that it is illegal to dump trees at community centers, Haʻikū or University of Hawaiʻi Maui College recycling centers, or dumped in parking lots.
