PC: University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College hosts its upcoming Hoʻolauleʻa on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. featuring games, music and fun. The event is free and open to the public.

Food from a variety of businesses will be offered for sale including: Al’s BBQ Pit – local plate lunches, filipino food; Holo Holo Garlic Noodles – garlic noodles with chicken or pork and boba drinks; Moʻono Hawaiʻi – Acai Bowls; and Pastele House – Puerto Rican and Hawaiian foods.

Craft vendors include: Shaka Mouse – Ahupuaʻa Sign Project; Na Meal Hoʻonani a Makalapua – Jewelry; Maui Tropical Teas & Haleakalā Supah Shots; and Wilikina Creations – Hand sewn bags, totes, aprons, Hawaiian print.

The lineup of entertainment and live music includes the following:

1 p.m. – Kūikawā
2 p.m. – Tarvin Makia
3 p.m. – Kaʻao Framework and Māui Moʻolelo with Hōkūlani Holt
3:30 p.m. – Institute of Hawaiian Music: Leihuanani, Kealiʻinohomoku and Malulani
5 p.m. – Ahumanu

The UH Maui College Hawaiian Studies department will host Hawaiian games which may include: kūkini, a foot race to test speed; ulu maika, a game of skill in which a stone disc is rolled into a distant and narrow opening; Hukihuki, or tug-of-war, to test brute strength and cooperation; or kōnane, a game of intellect and foresight similar to checkers., determined not who could capture the most stones but who could last the longest.

UHMC programs and student clubs participating in the weekend event include: Agriculture; the Institute of Hawaiian Music, Dental Hygiene; Hawaiian Studies; Liberal Arts; InterVarsity; and Creative Media.
