Update: California Man Agrees to Return Home After Arrest on Maui for Quarantine Violation

**Update**

On May 29, 2020 at about 10:23 a.m., Joaquin Pelayo, 36, was located and arrested for two counts of Rules and Orders for violating the state’s 14-day travel quarantine.

Pelayo voluntarily elected to return home. He was later released on his own recognizance. Pelayo is departing Maui on the evening of May 29, 2020.

The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating 36-year-old Joaquin Pelayo of California.

Police say Pelayo has allegedly violated the mandatory 14-day travel quarantine, as stipulated under the Emergency Proclamation by Governor David Ige, in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and is subject to arrest under the Rules and Orders.

Pelayo indicated he would be staying at a Kīhei home, however has not been located.

Pelayo described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Maui Police Department’s non-emergency number at (808) 244-6400 or call 911 if it is an emergency.
