Maui Man Arrested for Alleged Quarantine Violation

A Maui man was arrested over the weekend for alleged violation of rules and orders relating to travel quarantine.

Police say Steven Wright, 66, of Kīhei was arrested at around 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at about 11:10 a.m., after police received a tip via the mpdquarantine@mpd.net portal.  

One report indicated that Wright was seen in the Kīhei area on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, in alleged violation of quarantine.

Police say their investigation reveals that Wright arrived on Maui from Oʻahu on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2020 and did not have a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test. He was subject to quarantine until Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020.

Investigators located Wright near his residence, where he was arrested and transported to the Wailuku Station for processing without incident. The man posted bail which was set at $2,000.
