Maui Nurses Scholarship Foundation Hosts Golf and Online Auction Fundraiser
An estimated $35,000 was raised for the Maui Nurses Scholarship Foundation during a golf fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 8, at Maui Lani.
The Foundation supports the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College Nursing Program and Maui Memorial Medical Center nurses’ continuing education.
The event included a ball drop in which a prize was designated for the person or organization whose ticket number matched the number on the ball landing closest to the hole. Unexpectedly, three balls landed in the hole and members of the MNSF board randomly drew one ball as the winner.

The winning prize went to Hale Makua Health Services, which was a major donor of the event. The grand prize was an all-expense-paid, five-night stay, luxury ski trip to Keystone Colorado including air and hotel.
“Hale Makua has been a steady supporter of MNSF fundraisers and is an innovative educational partner in the LPN pathway,” said UH Maui College Nursing Instructor Anne Scharnhorst. They will also receive year-round logo recognition on the MNSF website.

“Along with Hale Makua, Maui Health System was also a major donor and leadership and bedside staff from both organizations attended,” said Scharnhorst.
Although more than $35,000 was raised, the goal is to reach $50,000 with the addition of the proceeds of a silent auction that remains open until Sunday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. The public can participate here – https://www.32auctions.com/MNSF
“We are raising this money to support student nurses in their journey to professionalism and working nurses in their continuing education. The cause couldn’t be more timely as we look toward a looming nurse shortage and a particularly COVID-stressed nursing workforce,” said Scharnhorst.
