Amazon founder and executive chairman, Jeff Bezos reportedly purchased a remote 14-acre oceanfront estate, 12 miles south of Kīhei. The property is reportedly surrounded by rocky lava fields and state parkland.
The quiet acquisition of the property had unusual details that include Bezos purchasing the LLC that owned the Maui property – transferring ownership to the tech billionaire, according to Dirt. While the sale was private, at least one realtor has estimated the transaction value at a record $78 million.
Prior to this transaction, a separate property in Keawakapu, Maui (3200 South Kīhei Road) sold for a record $45 million in July 2021.
Weeks before reports of his new home purchase, Bezos made a string of donations to local organizations in Maui County. Listed below are some of the organizations that received a donation from the world’s second-richest person:
- The Maui Farm
- Hawai‘i Land Trust
- Mālama Family Recovery Center
- Habitat for Humanity Maui
- Grow Some Good
- Feed My Sheep
- Maui Food Bank
- Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui
Bezos is the latest billionaire to join Larry Ellison, Oprah and Mark Zuckerberg to own an estate in Hawaiʻi.
