Makawao Fire Burns Two Acres of Heavy Brush
A fire in Makawao burned two acres of heavy brush before being brought under control on Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was first reported at 1:42 p.m. on Nov. 23, in an area of brush below Apau Place.
The blaze was declared 100% contained at 3:54 p.m., but crews remained on scene to conduct mop-up operations.
Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said the fire is expected to be 100% extinguished by nightfall.
According to FSC Yatsushiro, the area was difficult to access, so air assets were called in to support ground units.
Crews responding to the scene included: Engine 5, Engine 2, Engine 10, Hazmat 10, Tanker 10, Tanker 14, Tanker 3, Air 1, and Air 2.
Winds on scene were moderate, blowing at 5-15 mph.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
