Four residents displaced after Wailuku house fire

Fire crews on Friday contained a blaze of a four-unit, multi-family house in Wailuku to just the second floor of one unit, according to a Maui Fire Department news release today.

A 33-year-old female was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Four residents were unable to return to their home.

Two engines, a tanker, a hazmat unit, a rescue unit, two battalion chiefs and a fire investigator all responded to the structure fire on Papali Lane. The call occurred at 2:36 p.m. and by 4:02 p.m. the fire was under control. It was completely extinguished at 7:22 p.m.

Damage is estimated at $85,000 to the house and $10,000 to the contents.

The fire is under investigation. There were smoke detectors present and working.
