Maui police report recruit illness during academy

A recruit with the Maui Police Department was transferred to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Emergency Room on Friday after becoming ill while participating in the department’s academy.
Maui police described the case as a “line of duty” injury, but “out of respect for the employee’s medical privacy,” could not offer further information.
The incident was reported at approximately 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2022.
