Generational-farm tour Saturday at Chang Farms in South Maui
“If it’s Saturday, plant bamboo and sugar cane, and harvest limu (seaweed) and shellfish in tide pools under a half moon. Learn these cultural insights at Saturday’s Chang Farms tour in South Maui,” organizers said.
The event unfolds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at 5075 Mākena Road, at a 6-acre multigenerational farm in the Kukahiko-Chang genealogical line.
Guided tours begin at 9 and 11 a.m., and 1:20 p.m. The lineup for the event’s four workshops includes the following:
- 10 a.m.: Traditional Hawaiian moon-calendar planting/fishing guide
- 11:40 a.m.: Poke-kalo food demonstration
- 12 p.m.: Living Earth Systems regenerative farming with Eddy Garcia
- 12:50 p.m.: Kalo pounding for poi
Haleakalā Supah Shots will sell chili-fruit elixirs, and Chang Farms will offer loofah soaps, loofah scrubbers and other value-added products.
