Couple opens Paint Aloha gallery in Kīhei Kalama Village
On July 1, Annabell Ramil-Costa and Aaron Costa held the grand opening of Paint Aloha, a gallery by Annabell Ramil-Costa in Kīhei Kalama Village.
Ramil-Costa has been creating works of art that portray a lifestyle of aloha. The past 3 years she has been displaying her artwork at local markets, smaller pop-up venues or resorts across the island.
Through her artwork she often finds a way to “educate through art” as she says on the history of Hawaiʻi, and about how visitors can be respectful while visiting Maui.
Covering the walls of the new gallery are her joyful paintings of local wildlife, plants and even the Hōkūleʻa voyaging canoe, which currently is on an epic four-year journey.
“The artwork creates time to talk-story with our visitors about our wildlife and best practices to keep them safe, or share stories of the famous Hōkūleʻa and what it means to the people of Hawaiʻi,” Ramil-Costa said in a press release.
Ramil-Costa also will fund a scholarship for one Maui graduate by 2024, with plans to grow that program each year.
“Our young artists need to feel supported, and encouraged to follow their passions,” she said.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily. For more information, go to PaintAloha.com.
