Flood Warning for Maui until 7:30 p.m.; Severe thunderstorms in forecast through Saturday morning
Active weather expected through Saturday, with risk of severe thunderstorms and flash flooding

An unusually strong upper level disturbance moving over the state will bring the possibility strong to severe thunderstorms, which could produce damaging winds and large hail over the state.
The greatest chance for severe thunderstorms will occur during the day Friday through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Listen for later statements, as well as possible watches and warnings, as this event becomes more clear.
There is also a Flood Watch in effect for the entire State of Hawaiʻi through 6 a.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flash Flood Warning for The island of MauI until 7:30 p.m.
At 5:22 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over windward West Maui and windward Haleakalā. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 2 inches per hour with the heaviest rainfall over West Maui mountains. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Rainfall is currently nearly stationary and will likely continue over the next few hours.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include: Kahului, Kīhei, Makawao, Pukalani, Hāliʻimaile, Kula, Haʻikū-Paʻuwela, Paʻuwela, Huelo, Pāʻia, Puʻunēnē, Keʻanae, Māʻalaea, Nāhiku, Wailuku, Waiehu, Waikapū, Kīpahulu, Waiheʻe and Hāna.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. This warning may need to be extended beyond 7:30 p.m. if flooding persists. This Flash Flood Warning replaces the previously issued Flood Advisory that was in effect for The island of Maui in Maui County.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of Maui until 7:30 p.m.
At 4:26 p.m., radar showed heavy rain over the windward slopes of East Maui and West Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, and was nearly stationary.
Some locations in the advisory area that will experience flooding include: Kahului, Kīhei, Makawao, Pukalani, Hāliʻimaile, Kula, Haʻikū-Paʻuwela, Paʻuwela, Huelo, Pāʻia, Puʻunēnē, Keʻanae, Māʻalaea, Nāhiku, Wailuku, Waiehu, Waikapū, Kīpahulu, Waiheʻe and Hāna.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
This advisory may need to be extended beyond 7:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
