Winter Storm Warning issued for Big Island Summits from noon on Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Big Island Summits, in effect from noon on Friday, May 10 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

The NWS reports that heavy snow and very strong winds are expected. Total snow accumulations of up to six inches are expected, and wind gusts of over 70 mph are in the forecast.

Motorists are advised that travel to the summit areas could be very difficult to impossible with snow reducing visibility to zero for periods of time.

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring. Strong Winds are also possible.
