‘Get Out the Vote’ event set for July 20

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is sponsoring an inaugural “Get Out the Vote” community event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului.

The event will include voter registration, information on the election process and an opportunity to meet candidates. Games and entertainment will be included.

Candidates will not speak at the event, but residents can meet them in person at the nonpartisan event.

In alphabetical order by their last names, candidates who’ve indicated they will attend include:

  • Lorien Acquintas, West Maui Council seat.
  • Kelly Armstrong (R), District 14 Representative seat.
  • Nara Boone, Makawao-Haʻikū-Pāʻia Council seat.
  • Linda Clark (D), District 13 Representative seat.
  • Edward Codelia, Upcountry Council seat.
  • James Forrest, Wailuku-Waiheʻe-Waikapū Council seat.
  • Dan Johnson (R), District 12 Representative seat.
  • Kelly King, South Maui Council seat.
  • Angus McKelvey (D), District 6 Senatorial seat.
  • John Pele, Molokaʻi Council seat.
  • Johnny Prones, South Maui Council seat.
  • Rita Ryan (G), District 12 Representative seat.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association was founded in 1987 to advocate for the visitor industry. The organization also provides educational opportunities via the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism, scholarships for UH Maui College students and benefits for the community via annual events like the Visitor Industry Charity Walk, Excellence in Golf Tournament and Kupuna Appreciation Events.
