Rep. Jill Tokuda set to be keynote speaker at Maui Job Corps commencement
US Rep. Jill Tokuda will be the keynote speaker this week when Hawaiʻi Job Corps Center holds its commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday at the Maunaloa campus. Eighteen young men and women will receive certificates in trades such as culinary arts, facility maintenance, hospitality & lodging and business technologies.
The valedictorian is Kelio Lilio, a Home Builders Institute graduate. He has already been sworn in with the US Army and begin will his military service Aug. 5. Lilio represented Hawaiʻi Job Corps – Maui Campus at the International Builders Show in Las Vegas in February. While there, he won the fastest-at-driving-nails contest.
Other partners who employ the Maui Job Corps graduates include: the Mill House Restaurant, Rosalani’s, Mama’s Fish House, Home Depot, Three’s Bar and Grill, Macy’s, Duduoit Landscaping, Hale Makua, Kealani Resort and UH Maui College.
Job Corps is the nation’s largest federally funded job training and education program for youth ages 16 through 24 years of age.
