The Hana Hou Hospitality brand opens Coco Deck Lahaina, Kitchen + Bar this week, led by Chef Alvin Savella, “The Kitchen Assassin.”

Itʻs in the same spot previously occupied by Duckine at 1312 Front Street, across from Māla Ocean Tavern. Although it was still standing after the August 2023 wildfires, Duckine was heavily impacted and Savella spent the ensuing months executing pop-ups and preparing meals for families displaced by the Lahaina wildfire.

During its short run, Duckine made a significant impact in the local culinary scene, earning accolades such as the 2023 Best New Restaurant and Most Innovative Menu in the Maui No Ka Oi ‘Aipono Awards.

Chef Alvin Savella remains on board at the new Coco Deck Lahaina restaurant, this time offering a blend of Mexican, Local, Seafood & American flavors. The new restaurant aims to fill a gap in the area near the Lahaina Cannery on Front Street.

Coco Deck Lahaina hosts a soft opening for Maui residents  on Sept. 4 and 5; and an official grand opening on Sept. 7.

During the wait to reopen, the Coco Deck Lahaina team had the privilege of supporting Hua Momona Farms. Their kitchen was used to prepare meals for families displaced by the fire. They also hosted events to raise awareness and funds, raising over $17,000 with sister restaurant Māla Ocean Tavern for the Hua Momona Foundation.

Savella said, “We’re grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community during this challenging time. As we prepare to open our doors again, we look forward to continuing that support by offering a welcoming space where people can relax, unwind, and enjoy an affordable meal.”

Chef Savella will be a featured Chef during the 1st Annual Maui Food & Music Experience, Sept. 5 – 7, 2024, alongside Hua Momona Executive Chef Zach Laidlaw.

Guests can look forward to a casual dining experience that caters to all tastes, with a mix of dishes such as tacos, burgers, and fresh fish, all showcasing Chef Alvin’s signature style. The deck offers oceanfront seating, complemented by tropical cocktails and mocktails.
