Monday night’s Lahaina Strong candidate forum will be broadcast live by Akakū Maui Community Media from 5:30 to 8 p.m. from Hanakaʻōʻō “Canoe” Beach in West Maui. A live stream will be available on Akakū Channel 54, the Maui Stream app at akaku.org/watch, and Akakū’s YouTube page at youtube.com/@AkakuMaui/streams

The event on Oct. 7 is open to the public and will be moderated by Hawai’i News Now reporter Chelsea Davis, with community questions posed as well. All Maui County Council candidates have been invited.

County Council Candidates will have an opportunity to speak directly to the Lahaina community and the broader public about how they would govern with regard to key issues related to Lahaina’s rebuild, long-term recovery, and Maui’s future.

“We want to make sure that the Lahaina community receives the attention that it deserves. The decisions made by future County Council members will not only influence the immediate rebuilding process, but have lasting effects on Lahaina for generations to come,” said Jordan Ruidas of Lahaina Strong. “It is vital that the voices of Lahaina residents are heard and that their needs are prioritized in the planning and decision-making processes.”

The Maui County Clerk’s Election Division will be in attendance at the forum to assist with voter registration, changes of address, and to answer any questions about the upcoming election.

For more information about the event and how to participate, contact Akakū or Lahaina Strong.
