Uʻu-Hodgins to host Makawao town hall on community updates, emergency preparedness Oct. 16
Councilmember Nohelani Uʻu-Hodgins has invited community members to attend a town hall on community updates and emergency preparedness on Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Samuel E. Kalama Intermediate School cafeteria, announced a press release.
Uʻu-Hodgins said the town hall is an opportunity for Makawao and Hāliʻimaile residents and businesses to receive news on local projects, disaster awareness and legislative initiatives impacting their community. Attendees will receive updates from the Department of Public Works on improvements in the Makawao area, the fire and police departments on emergency response and the Maui Emergency Management Agency on evacuation procedures, she said.
“This town hall is about keeping our Makawao and Hāliʻimaile communities informed and prepared,” said Uʻu-Hodgins, who holds the seat for the Makawao-Haʻikū-Pāʻia residency area. “From local improvements to emergency readiness, it’s important that we work together to ensure our towns continue to thrive.”
Also, Uʻu-Hodgins said the Department of Water Supply will provide updates on recent rule changes for condominium property regime lots, and she will provide updates on the council’s legislative work. Following the presentations, a Q&A session will allow residents to ask questions and share their concerns with officials.
“This town hall offers a platform for residents and businesses to engage with local leaders, stay informed about ongoing efforts to improve the Makawao and Hāliʻimaile areas and enhance emergency preparedness,” she said. “I encourage community members to attend and participate.”
