The Lānaʻi community celebrated Earth Week on Saturday at the Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center’s 4th Annual Kupulau Festival.

The annual event is a celebration of Lānaʻi’s biocultural landscape and the island’s intensive efforts to revitalize its native ecosystems. This event brings together residents and visitors to honor the island’s natural and cultural heritage.

Year round the nonprofit Lāna‘i Culture & Heritage Center hosts restoration days where the island comes together to regenerate the landscape with native plants by clearing invasive species and replanting at significant heritage sites.

This year’s event brought conservation organizations from across the state to celebrate including Hawaiʻi Nature Center from Maui, which is relaunching its education program with summer camps this summer to teach children about conservation and wildlife.

The festival was supported by KS Kaiāulu and National Fish & Wildlife Foundation.
