The Transpacific Yacht Club will hold the 53rd edition of the Transpac Race this July, a 2,225-mile sailing competition from Los Angeles to Honolulu. As sailors approach the iconic Diamond Head lighthouse near Waikīkī, they’ll be completing a journey steeped in over a century of tradition, dating back to the race’s inaugural run in 1906.

This year’s event features 60 registered boats, including two Hawaiʻi-based entries: INSOUMISE, a white Dufour 50 skippered by Michael Marion representing the Hawaiʻi Yacht Club with an eight-person crew, and HALAWA, a blue Andrews 56 led by Kimo Winterbottom representing the Waikīkī Yacht Club with an eleven-person crew.

Late registration closes May 30, with the first of three Monohull fleet starts scheduled for July 1 from San Pedro, Calif. The second start is slated for July 3, and the third is set to start July 5. Race organizers expect a competitive and action-packed event.
