Camp Imua seeks teen and youth counselors for summer experience in Keʻanae
Camp Imua is now accepting applications for volunteer counselors for its 2025 session, happening June 7–12 in Keʻanae, Maui. Organizers say teen and youth counselors will find the experience is a meaningful way to stay engaged, build character, and make a real difference in the community.
Camp Imua is a week-long overnight summer camp that pairs children with special needs with youth volunteers (ages 16–21) for a week of unforgettable activities—beach outings, helicopter rides, horseback riding, dance parties and more.
“Camp Imua counselors are an integral part of the overall camp experience,” says Darris Hurst, Events & Programs Coordinator. “They help guide our special needs campers through the week and make each activity memorable.”

All volunteer counselors receive extensive training prior to camp. This comprehensive orientation covers everything from safety protocols and camper care to communication skills and team-building activities. The training ensures that every counselor is confident, prepared, and supported throughout the week.
“Camp counselors create lifelong bonds and friendships, learn invaluable leadership skills, become mentors to their campers—all while earning over 120 hours of volunteer service,” Hurst added.

Run by Imua Family Services, a nonprofit serving Maui County for over 75 years, Camp Imua is fully staffed by trained professionals, nurses, and coordinators to ensure a safe and enriching environment for all participants.
Applications are open now for youth ages 16–21. Space is limited, and spots fill quickly.
