2-3 acres burned in weekend fire on Molokaʻi

An estimated 2-3 acres of brush burned during an afternoon fire on Molokaʻi over the weekend. The incident was reported at 2:24 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in an area above Kaunakakai town.

Initial reports indicated the fire was located at the top of ʻĪlio Road, in the area of Ranch Camp.

Department officials say the brush fire was located near structures, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze and protect the area using water drops and ground crews. Firefighters battled the blaze in 20 mph tradewind conditions.

The fire was brought under control at 3:07 p.m. and was extinguished at 7:07 p.m.

Responding units included: Engine 4, Tanker 4, Relief Tanker 4, Engine 9, Engine 12 and Air 1.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
