County of Maui Office of Recovery to hold series of community workshops focused on rebuilding

The County of Maui Office of Recovery will hold a series of workshops on rebuilding Lahaina’s commercial district.

“Your feedback is critical to shaping the future of our town,” an announcement says.

The workshops are scheduled as follows:

  • Streets workshops: 1 to 5 p.m. June 24 and 1 to 3:30 p.m. June 25 at the Lahaina Resource Center, Suite B102, Lahaina Gateway near Ace Hardware.
  • Open house: 4 to 7 p.m. June 25 at the Lahaina Resource Center.
  • Open house and closing presentation: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 26 at Lahaina Intermediate School.

Maui County’s Office of Recovery is inviting members of the public to provide input on the rebuilding of streets in the wildfire devastated commercial core of Lahaina, including Front Street.

“Consider how to accommodate all users, whether walking, biking, in a wheelchair, riding the bus, or driving and parking a car,” according to an announcement.

Other projects “in the works” include: royal complex planning, a Front Street railings project, wildfire debris transfer, Lahaina Harbor coordination, future access planning, streets and parking, code violation enforcement, property acquisitions and connections, upcoming memorial planning and Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief programs planning.
