Maui Film Commissioner Brian Kohne to discuss the film industry at Kihei-Wailea Rotary, Sept. 10

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, Maui Film Commissioner Brian Kohne will address the Rotary Club of Kīhei-Wailea, presenting on the topic of “Maui’s Nascent Motion Picture Industry.”

During the meeting, he will discuss various initiatives the Maui Film Office is pursuing and will be available to answer questions from the audience.

The Maui Film Office is dedicated to creating opportunities for local creatives in both education and industry, while also supporting the needs of visiting professionals and productions. Kohne emphasizes the importance of education and empowerment for local producers and creatives in establishing a meaningful and sustainable motion picture industry.

Brian Kohne is an award-winning writer, director, and producer, known for his work on films such as “Get A Job” and “Kuleana.” He is also a music producer for Barefoot Natives and Willie K, and a playwright for White Hawaiian in collaboration with Eric Gilliom.

A graduate of Baldwin High School in 1982, Kohne earned his degree in Art and Radio/TV/Film from San Jose State University. He returned to Maui in 2005 after a successful career in Silicon Valley, where he held positions as a national director of sales and marketing, a senior user interface architect for an interactive television company, and worked in sports broadcasting and corporate video production.

Additionally, Kohne is a tenured assistant professor who established the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, where he currently serves as program coordinator.

The meeting will take place at Kīhei Lutheran Church, located at 220 Moʻi Place, Kīhei, Hawaiʻi 96753. Social time and a light lunch will begin at 11:15 a.m., followed by
the program from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
