DWS requests South Maui conservation of nonessential water use April 3 due to mainline repair
The County of Maui Department of Water Supply is requesting all South Maui customers, including residents, visitors, hotels and condominium properties, to conserve water and limit nonessential use from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, while crews work to repair a mainline break.
The work may cause a temporary loss of water service or reduced pressure in areas mauka of Līpoa Street, between Līpoa Street and Kilohana Drive, and throughout Wailea and Mākena.
Affected areas include the Maui Research & Technology Park, Kīhei Charter School, and surrounding businesses and residents in Kīhei, Wailea and Mākena. Maui Meadows is not expected to be affected; however, residents are still asked to conserve water during this time.
“While water storage tanks are currently full, they may deplete rapidly if water is not conserved during this period,” DWS Director John Stufflebean said. “These conservation efforts will help maintain water availability for essential needs while repair work is underway and service is restored.”
Customers are asked to refrain from nonessential water use, including watering lawns and washing vehicles. Additional conservation tips can be found at https://waterresources.mauicounty.gov/153/Water-Conservation.
DWS issues notifications regarding service interruptions, conservation requests or water quality advisories through its News Flash notifications. Sign up via the County of Maui website at https://www.mauicounty.gov/list.aspx.
