Here is an ongoing list of road closures impacting Maui County as a result of winds, rain and flooding associated with Tropical Cyclone Lala. Check back for updates, which will be posted as they become available.
8:44 a.m., 8.15.26: Update: Road Closure at Kaupakalua Rd between W. Kuiaha and Nilu Pl. One lane open / road way is passable one lane. Signage posted.
8:33 a.m., 8.15.26: Piʻiholo Rd update: One lane open / road way is passable one lane. Signage posted.
7 a.m., 8.15.26: Tree down blocking one lane on HānaHighway at mile 13.6. A state crew is en route.
5:49 a.m., 8.15.26: Kaupakalua Road closure in Haʻikū: Both directions of Kaupakalua Road, between West Kuiaha Road and Nilu Place are currently closed, due to a downed tree and downed power lines. The Mauka bound lane of Kaupakalua Road and Nilu Place, is currently open to residents only.
3:29 a.m., 8.15.26: The roadway fronting the area of 960 Piʻiholo Road is completely open at this time however, the entire roadway at the intersection of Piʻiholo Road and Ehu Road, is still closed due to downed power lines.
(Previous post: 2:10 a.m., 8.15.26: Both lanes of Piʻiholo Road, between the intersection of Piʻiholo Road and Ehu Road, and the area fronting 960 Piʻiholo Road in Makawao are currently closed due to downed trees. The roadway between these areas is not passable at this time).
Other Counties:
9:20 a.m., 8.15.26: Hawaii Island. Road closed at MM 53.7 on Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Rte. 19) between Mana Road and Iokua Place due to flooding. Please avoid the area.
9:09 a.m., 8.15.26: North Kohala District. Hwy 250 closed from Hawi Rd to HPA. Local traffic only. Use Hwy 270 until further notice.
9:00 a.m., 8.15.26: Oʻahu. The H-1 eastbound right lane and the Likelike offramp will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. today (8/15) to repair a damaged attenuator.
8:25 a.m., 8.15.26: Kohala Mountain Rd. (Route 250) is closed between Hawaiʻi Preparatory Academy to the Akoni Pule Hwy. (Route 270) junction at Hawi, per Hawaiʻi Police Department due to unsafe conditions of down branches, limbs and trees.
5:40 a.m., 8.15.26: Hawaiʻi Island: A fallen tree is blocking both lanes of Highway 19 between mile 15-16 on the north side of Hakalau Bridge.
5:10 a.m., 8.15.26: Oʻahu: Multiple lanes on the H-1 eastbound before the Likelike offramp are blocked due to a multi-vehicle crash. Drive with caution.
5:04 a.m., 8.15.26: Oʻahu: Motor vehicle crash on H-1 westbound between the Kaamilo St. and Kaonohi St. overpasses blocking two left lanes. HPD on the scene awaiting a tow truck.
1:57 a.m., 8.15.26: Hawaiʻi Island: Crews are responding to a motor vehicle crash and fallen tree on Route 19 near mile 53, Waimea side. Proceed with caution.
